The leader of the Direct Energie Team, Thomas Voeckler, announced that he would be at the start of the 12th edition of the Tropicale Amissa Bongo (27 February-5 March). He will come to Gabon to ride the major race of the African UCI calendar for the 4th time of his career after 2012, 2014 and 2016 and he has already won a stage in 2012 in Akiéni. The former French champion and yellow jersey of the Tour de France likes the roads of the Gabon test which constitutes for him a good start of his season.

The Tropicale Amissa Bongo will take place in seven stages across five provinces of the country from February 27th until March 5th. Five professional teams, two of which are registered in UCI Continental Pro (Direct Energie and Delko-Marseille Provence-KTM), will compete with the best ten teams from Africa to succeed the french rider Adrien Petit, the final winner in 2016.
