Colnago presented the new time trial bike.

The frame was developed by exploiting the previous experience gained with K. One, protagonist among the many notable results at the Tour de France 2020 of a spectacular comeback at the penultimate stage, and contains all of Colnago's know-how in the search for maximum aerodynamic performance. .

The use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in the creation of the first 3D models and the objective findings obtained in different phases in the wind tunnel of the Politecnico di Milano, have made it possible to obtain results never seen before in terms of performance at high speeds. TT1 is still homologated as a prototype at the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) and will therefore have to undergo a further process of modifications that will make it available for sale to the public only from next autumn.

The TT1 is the first Colnago time trial bicycle with a disc braking system. The choice guarantees the best passage of the hydraulic pipes inside the frame with consequent better braking performance and greater rigidity of the entire bicycle thanks to the use of through pins on the wheels. The weight difference with the previous K.One model is minimal in the face, however, of an overall better quality in terms of safety and braking quality.

Looking at the front portion of the frame, you can see the bayonet fork, in fact very similar to a double plate, a practically obligatory choice to drastically reduce the frontal impact of the frame in the air while maintaining excellent torsional rigidity.

Among the other important innovations is the monocoque base bar in carbon fiber, lighter, more rigid and more aerodynamic than the one developed previously, designed to be compatible with the Colnago hanger kit (available starting from autumn 2022) and with the most common aftermarket solutions, including the Deda Jet One appendages used by the team.

Furthermore, the search for maximum aerodynamic performance has led to the creation of a bottle holder + bottle kit which now become part of the functional aerodynamics of the entire frame. The bottle, with a capacity of 0.5 liters, is still a 3D printed prototype, a technology increasingly present in the Colnago world, which will be developed in collaboration with Elite and will be available to the public from autumn 2022.

The available sizes are three (S, M and L) developed using both the feedback of the riders and the most modern biomechanical techniques applied to the riding position.

To obtain the best aerodynamic performance, it was decided to significantly shorten the length of the head tube and to obtain the correct positioning of the rider through the use of a greater number of shims under the elbow rests. This is because the technicians have noticed a better aerodynamic performance of the “towers” of thicknesses in the wind tunnel compared to a more voluminous frame.

Another difference compared to K.One is the total horizontality of the upper tube which is no longer sloping. Among the important details are the unique compatibility with electronic groups (now the standard for time trial frames) and the possibility of mounting a single front chainring or the classic double depending on the type of route.

Weight and price have not been declared, but we estimate a weight of about 8.5kg for the complete bike and a cost of more than 15 thousand euros for the complete bike assembled at the top of the range.
