We respond to a reader who asks us for some opinions and advice on Canyon Ultimate CFR 2023:

I read the test you did on the new Canyon! It is a bike that I really like and the characteristics match my needs. What slows me down a bit and is the reason why I am writing to you, is to understand the ride comfort over long distances and the stability on descents. Can you explain better what the feeling is like !? I would be interested in the top-of-the-range model, I don't know if that's what you tried. I thank you"
Like all bikes intended for competitions and with particular geometries, even the Canyon Ultimate CFR di2 2023 cannot be considered a comfortable bike.
However, ride comfort is also a subjective aspect, at least within certain limits.
The Canyon Ultimate CFR 2023 is on par with a Specialized Tarmac SL7, just worse than a Trek Emonda SLR, better than the Trek Madone SLR, like a Giant TCR 2023 or Scott Addict RC.
So we can say that it is in line with its main competitors.
When it comes to downhill stability, it's less accurate than a Specialized Tarmac SL7, but behaves like a Trek Emonda or Giant TCR, or Scott Addict RC.
Nothing more.
Ultimately, both in terms of ride comfort and in descent stability, although there are differences with other models, these are minimal and not such as to justify the choice of one or the other model.
I believe that modern racing bikes have leveled and stabilized within their categories and especially in top-of-the-range racing bikes the real difference is the marketing, making one bike look much better than another when they are similar and with characteristics not such as to justify, at times, the price differences.
