Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 VS Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 Road test review Build quality

Both the Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 and the Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 are very well made and with an equivalent quality after all.

No criticisms can be made for both, except for the limited color range, but otherwise everything is done well and even better than other competitors.

The value for money is not the best ever, but we can say that there are those who do much worse.

Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 VS Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 Road Test Review Frame

Both are a step down from the more expensive S-Works frame, but barring that extra 100 grams of weight both frames are well made.

Obviously the Aethos frame is lighter.

Good availability of sizes for both models.

In the end, with around 7,000 Euros, you can take home a nice racing bike, regardless of whether it's a Tarmac or Aethos.

In conclusion, two beautiful frames, valid and competitive.

There is clearly no shortage of alternatives, but the charm of a Specialized is irresistible for many.

Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 VS Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 Road Test Assemblies Review

The Shimano Ultegra Di2 assembly is well compared to the overall average standard of the two bicycles.

The carbon wheels and the rest of the components are good.

The weight difference between the two bikes is around 100 grams, not as big as one might think.

Our measurement is around 7.3 KG for the Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 and around 7.2Kg for the Specialized Aethos Expert 2023.

We would have expected a bigger difference.

Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 VS Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 Road test Comfort review

Ride comfort is the first difference between the two bikes.

Fair for the Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert but good for the Specialized Aethos Expert.

Both Specialized racing bikes are not very comfortable in absolute terms, but the Aethos is superior to the Tarmac in terms of ride comfort and also in absolute terms it's not bad.

On the other hand, the Tarmac is on the average for high performance racing bikes.

Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 VS Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 Road Test Review Guide

Among them, Specialized racing bikes are certainly a point of reference for their driving balance, ease of driving, driving safety.

However, these aspects are different between the two bikes.

The Tarmac, stiffer, enters corners faster, remains slightly more stable at high speeds, is safer and more stable in the wind.

In comparison, the Aethos is lighter, with less precise steering, you need more attention downhill and at high speeds.

Another difference is the way they fit into corners and steer on a mountain descent.

In theory, the Specialized Tarmac is faster in changing direction and entering corners, but requires more driving effort, more force is needed to enter it in corners.

Instead, the Aethos enters corners on its own, just as fast, but more natural and less tiring.

On the other hand, as mentioned, the Aethos seemed less precise at high speeds, especially when passing over stretches of damaged asphalt.

Overall, if the route is narrow and medium slow, the Aethos is better, if it is mixed and fast, the Tarmac is better.

For both the brakes are more than excellent, nothing to add.

Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 VS Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 Road test review Performance

Both racing bikes are very fast, but performance is achieved differently and according to the athlete.

A heavy and powerful athlete is always faster with the Tarmac.

The Aethos is valid on hard climbs and with light and underpowered athletes.

In general the Tarmac is perfect on flats, hills and medium climbs.

While the real advantage of the Aethos is on really tough climbs.

With these assemblies and with this small difference in weight, we have always found the Tarmac better and only in a few circumstances has the Aethos been better.

Ultimately, the Tarmac is always competitive everywhere, the Aethos is really competitive on very tough climbs.

Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 VS Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 Road test review Pros and cons

Both Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert and Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 are two excellent racing bikes.

Of the two, for overall performance, the Specialized Tarmac SL7 Expert 2023 convinced us the most.

The Specialized Aethos Expert 2023 weighs too close to the Tarmac to really benefit uphill.

In the end, the more versatile and competitive of the two is the Tarmac.

The advantage of the Aethos is greater ride comfort and greater performance on hard climbs.

For both the price is high, but until now it hasn't been a problem ...
